ZTE’s Innovative Spirit Makes It One of the Most Competitive Brands Globally

Boston, Sept. 19, 2014, — At the “2014 Global Competitiveness Brands Top 10 from China” ceremony held by International Data Group on Sept. 17, ZTE Corporation won the Top 10 Brands title and the Most Innovative Award. The event was held together with the 2014 Sustainable Company Growth & Global Competitiveness Forum at Boston Convention and Conference Center.

ZTE Corporation, which formerly known as Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment Corporation, was founded in 1985. Now it has been publicly traded on Shenzhen stock exchange and Hong Kong stock exchange. In its 30-year-history, ZTE’s outstanding performance in innovation, products, patents, etc. has grabbed global attentions.

Lixin Cheng, senior vice president of ZTE Corporation and CEO of ZTE USA, attended the ceremony. “ZTE is a global corporation that we emphasize innovation and research. ZTE deserves the title,” said Cheng in Chinese. Now ZTE also stands as No. 4 among the unlocked mobile phones in the market of the United States.

ZTE has been focusing on innovation since it was founded. Cheng said ZTE has around 30,000 patents. In 2011 and 2012, ZTE’s number of patent applications stood as No.1 in the United States.

According to Mr. Cheng, ZTE’s move to the US in 1998 (headquartered in Texas) has created a “win-win-win” situation. In other words, ZTE has provided opportunities in employment, economy and technology for China, the United States and the world.

As a Chinese brand, ZTE plays an important role in the world stage. Now the company has established 18 research centers in countries including the United States, Sweden, France and India.

“ZTE’s innovating spirit helps China to gain reputation in the world,” said Cheng.

The “2014 Global Competitiveness Brands Top 10 from China” ceremony was a part of the Fifth Sustaining Company Growth and Global Competitiveness Forum. This year is also the second year that IDG brought the forum to Boston. The forum lasted for three days from September 16 to 18. Representatives of the ten Chinese brands came to Boston and achieved the awards given by IDG.

Orient Zhu, the business development director of IDG China, said while selecting the ten best brands, they would focus on six areas — innovation, patents, brands, products, market and data.

“ZTE is outstanding,” said Zhu in Chinese. “Being No.4 in the United States is not easy.”

The other nine brands which achieved the TOP 10 titles are China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank Corporation, China Life Insurance Company, China Mobile Communication Corporation, Huawei, Haier, BOE Technology Group, Tencent and China Great Wall Computer.
