Boston, Dec. 31, 2015, — The Night of Opera, Ms. Ying Wu’s graduate recital concert, will be held on Jan.23 (Saturday 7:00 PM) at Longy School of Music of Bard College (27 Garden St. Cambridge Pick Man Hall). The concert will be directed by Robert Honeysucker.
The concert features many distinguished musicians: Thomas Enman(accompanist), Junyu Ge(trumpet), Jeffery Zhou(piccolo), Wei Zhao and Ammi Yared Lopez Rodrigues(flutists), Sofija Sibinovic(Harp), Guillermo Ortiz(guitar), and Monica Li(Violin).
Special guests of the concert include Gabriel Pang(tenor), Leah Fallon(soprano), Sirgourney Tanner(soprano), Todd McNeel Jr.(Bass Baritone) and Ying Wu Vocal Studio Children Chorus.
Ying Wu, Mezzo-soprano, is co-founder of Boston Chinese Musicians Association. She holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Hangzhou Normal University, China and M.M. in Opera from Longy School of Music of Bard College. She was a soloist in Beijing Postal Performance Arts Troupe and played a leading role in opera “Carmen” with Zhejiang Opera and Dance Drama Theatre. Ms. Wu is strongly influenced by modern American vocal art.
Ms. Wu has been studying with renowned mezzo-soprano Edna Garabedian since 2007. Ms. Wu also studied privately with Wellesley College voice faculty Gale Fuller from 2009-2011, New England Conservatory professor D’Anna Fortunato from 2011-2013, and with Prof. Robert Honeysucker at the Longy School of Music of Bard College from 2013-2015. During her years in Boston, Ms. Wu has participated in numerous performances, such as Lucia di Lammermoor, La Cenerentola, Sweeny Todd, Der Rosenkavalier, Gondoliers, Mignon, and Our Town. She will be in charge of training soloists and chorus members for the Musician association’s “A suite of music from the Red Mansions” performance.
Established her own Boston vocal studio in 2009, Ms. Wu currently teaches music lessons at the Newton Chinese School and Winchester Chinese School. She has taught vocal lessons at Angel Performance arts, Acton Chinese School and Westwood Chinese School. Over past six years, Ms. Wu educated several hundred students in the Greater Boston area with her unique vocal pedagogy.
