Boston, March 8, 2013, — I live north of Boston, and had to go to Longwood area this afternoon for an appointment. When I opened the door this morning, there was already several inches of snow. I parked my car in a way that it was against the strong wind overnight. To my surprise, my Corolla looked more like a Prius with wet snow on top of the trunk shaped by the strong wind.

In 2012, 11 weather-related disasters caused at least $1bn (￡623m) in damage, including "superstorm" Sandy and a months-long drought that hit almost two-thirds of the country, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The drought - the worst in the US since the 1950s - contributed to higher temperatures. Without enough moisture in the soil to evaporate into rainfall, air becomes hotter and dryer. US temperature records go back to 1895 and are now based on reports from more than 1,200 weather stations across the contiguous 48 states. Last year was 1.7C (3.2F) warmer than the average for the entire 20th Century, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. July broke the record for hottest month. 【侨报周末特约记者李强波士顿图文报道】3月1日晚，记者应邀出席了在波士顿交响乐大厅举行的纪念不久前刚刚去世的美国著名钢琴大师范·克莱本的音乐会，郎朗作为特邀钢琴家同波士顿交响乐团（BSO）合作演绎了《拉赫玛尼诺夫第二钢琴协奏曲》。郎朗这次来波士顿一共在2月28日、3月1日、2日连续3晚在波士顿交响乐厅演出，得到众多粉丝的热烈追捧。

正月15日元宵节是春节之后的又一大中国传统节日。满月在新年里第一次升上夜空，而波士顿地区的华人们也纷纷在这个佳节里聚会团圆。

【文： 柳钰姣（南开大学2007级）】2月24日与中国的正月十五传统佳节元宵节不期而遇，十多位波士顿地区南开校友及家属当晚如期相聚于京川酒家欢度元宵佳节。聚会校友中有的在哈佛，麻省理工，巴布森及东北大学读书，有的在咨询行业和政府部门工作，还有的在化工和艺术品拍卖领域创业。
