  • Celebrating Golden Spike 150th Anniversary, US-China Summit to be Held in May

    On May 10, 1869 in Promontory, Utah, the first transcontinental railroad across North America officially opened for through traffic with the driving in of the last “Golden Spike”. Over 600 miles of the most hazardous part of the Central Pacific route was mainly built by more than 12,000 Chinese workers, the majority of whom were originally from the Canton province. They toiled in extremely harsh condition and accomplished a seemingly impossible mission. In total, nearly 2000 lives were lost during the railroad construction though this is likely an underestimate.

  • Harvard Study: Push-up Capacity A Health Indicator for Men

    Boston, MA – Active, middle-aged men able to complete more than 40 push-ups had a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes—including diagnoses of coronary artery disease and major events such as heart failure—during 10 years of follow-up compared with those who were able to do less than 10 push-ups during the baseline exam.

  • Workers Rally to Stop Wage Theft at Happy Lamb Hot Pot

    Feb. 27, 2017, Cambridge, Mass., — Current and former Chinese and Latino Happy Lamb Hot Pot workers held a rally in front of the Cambridge restaurant today. They protested against pervasive wage theft, retaliation, and abuse they have experienced since working at the popular restaurant chain.

    I spent this past weekend in Washington, DC, and Baltimore for President’s Day. We had a rally in Baltimore on Monday that drew a couple hundred enthusiastic supporters at Charm City Meadery. It was a blast. I bought some honeyed mead to take home, which made my wife happy.

  • Mayor Walsh-Announces over $26 Million for Affordable Housing

    BOSTON – Wednesday, February 20, 2019 – Building on his commitment to create and preserve affordable housing in Boston, Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced more than $26 million in new and recommended funding from the Department of Neighborhood Development, the Neighborhood Housing Trust, and the Community Preservation Fund, to create and preserve 515 units of housing in Brighton, East Boston, Dorchester, Mattapan, Mission Hill, North End, and Roxbury. The new funding will also contribute to affordable housing programming like the Acquisition Opportunity Program and the Boston Home Center.

  • CAAL Celebrates 36th Anniversary and Chinese New Year

    Lexington, Mass., Feb, 15, 2019, — Chinese American Association Association of Lexington (CAAL) held Chinese New Year celebration at Battin Memorial Hall on Feb, 10. It was the sixth day of the Chinese New Year of Pig which started on Feb 5. Over 700 people showed up for the celebration.

  • Bingchuan Wan and Jingyi Huang Draw Rave Reviews in Operetta Countess Maritza

    Cambridge, Mass., Feb, 11, 2019, — The annual opera performance of Longy School of Music of Bard College, which have long enjoyed a good reputation in the music circle, was successfully staged on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3. This year, The school elaborately selected the masterpiece of Hungarian composer Emmerich Kalman: operetta Countess Maritza. The flawless performances of leading tenor Bingchuan Wan, soprano Jingyi Huang and other performers brought laughter and tears to over 300 in the audience.

  • Brady and Edelman at Disney World Today, on Duck Boat Tomorrow!

    Boston, Feb. 4, 2019, — The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last night and that meant a parade would be coming to Magic Kingdom! Late after the game, it was announced that quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Julian Edelman would represent the Patriots in a victory parade.
