Boston, Jan. 31, 2018, — It was a campaign promise made by candidate Marty Walsh in 2013, and Mayor Walsh finally delivered it at end of his first term as the funding for Boston Public Library Chinatown Branch was annouced in 2017. The Chinatown Branch will open its doors on Feb. 5 at the China Trade Center in Chinatown.

New York City, Jan. 17, 2018, — For the typical American, the new year festivities ended with the passing of December. For the prominent Chinese populations within the States, the American new year marks the beginning of theirs. The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, lands on February 16 of this year and is the most celebrated holiday of the year (as measured through the Lunar Calendar).

Boston, Jan. 13, 2018, — On his 112th birthday, Chinese Linguist Zhou Youguang was honored on Google’s homepage today. Mr. Zhou passed away on Jan. 14, 2017 at age 111. Zhou was a Chinese economist, banker, linguist, sinologist, publisher, and supercentenarian, known as the “father of Pinyin”, a system for the writing of Mandarin Chinese in Roman script, or romanization, which was officially adopted by the government of the People’s Republic of China in 1958, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1982, and the United Nations in 1986.

Wednesday, December 13, 2017 marks the 80th Anniversary of the “Nanking Massacre” aka “Rape of Nanking”.
Chinese American Citizen’s Alliance (CACA) Boston Lodge will be holding a peaceful candle light vigil at Chinatown Gateway Park from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM on that evening.

Boston, Nov. 28, 2017 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh today joined the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) and Chinatown residents to celebrate the ribbon cutting of 88 Hudson Street, a development that created 51 affordable new condominiums for working families in Chinatown.

Boston, Nov. 6, 2017, — With the Boston Mayor and City Council elections on this Tuesday, Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) has called its members and residents of Chinatown to exercise their voting rights at polling stations tomorrow. CPA has endorsed Ed Flynn in Boston City Council District 2 election, which is hotly contested with current City Councilor Bill Linehan retiring.

Oct. 24, 2017, Boston, — Last week, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta, spoke to a packed room of business leaders, immigrants, and English language program providers at Northeastern University. She was there to present awards at an event organized by English for New Bostonians to businesses that provide English classes for their immigrant workers, but she also had a personal message to share.

Boston, Oct. 10, 2017, — World Class pianists, Michelle Chen Kuo and her son, Christopher Kuo, performed a duo piano concert at David Friend Recital Hall in Boston on October 7 to benefit Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center(BCNC). The concert raised $7,500 to support BCNC programs for children, youth, and families. Sponsors include Sun Life Financial, Cathay Bank, the Rosenberg Institute of East Asian Studies at Suffolk University, and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Boston.

Inspired to change the impact of cancer on the lives of those in our Club community, The Skating Club of Boston and its Theatre On Ice of Boston program are inviting all Club members to partner with them and the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation to Turn Cancer Upside Down. Funds raised for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation support cancer research, education, and survivorship with 20% of the funds raised through this Club initiative going directly to two of our local, world-class institutions: Mass General Cancer Center and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
