Boston, July 23, 2014, — The City of Boston is enlisting the aid of some skilled four-legged helpers in order to combat poison ivy, buckthorn, Japanese knotweed, and other invasive plant species growing on Boston Parks and Recreation Department property. The Parks Department has teamed up with the Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation (SWBCDC) and The Goatscaping Company of Duxbury and Plymouth to host a small group of goats at the West Street Urban Wild in Hyde Park as a sustainable approach to landscape management.

Mayor Walsh, English Works Campaign to Recognize Businesses Supporting ESOL
Boston – The English Works Campaign, a statewide effort led by English for New Bostonians, is soliciting nominations of businesses and labor-management programs that support English language classes for immigrants in Massachusetts. The Certificate of Recognition is a cornerstone of the Campaign, serving to raise the visibility of the need for English classes and critical role that businesses and unions play in developing the Commonwealth’s workforce.

Richard Liang Among Volunteers of the Year Honored at 18th Annual Boston Main Streets Awards
On June 26, 2014, Mayor Martin J. Walsh, together with Department of Neighborhood Development Director Sheila Dillon and emcee Susan Wornick, attended the 18th annual Boston Main Streets Awards. At the event, he presented awards to the Boston Main Streets volunteers and businesses of the year, and highlighted significant new funds from the Boston Main Streets Foundation. Richard Liang and Crown Royal Bakery were honorees for Chinatown Main Street. The ceremony, which took place at the historic Strand Theatre in Dorchester, featured entertainment by the Fiddle Head Theatre’s cast of Aida.

Newton, Mass., July 20, 2014, — At the Yen Family banquet last night at Boston Newton Marriott Hotel to celebrate the 52nd Wedding anniversary of Mr. Klysler Yen and Mrs. Bow Sim Mark Yen, representatives from Governor Patrick and Mayor Walsh, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson and Boston Councilor Tito Jackson honored the couple with citations and proclamation for their dedicated service to the community in the past 39 years since they immigrated to Boston in 1975 from Hong Kong.

Malaysia Airlines Releases List of 298 MH17 Passengers
July 19, 2014, — Malaysia Airlines is appealing to the family members or friends of those onboard MH17 to contact the airline. Enclosed is the MH17 passenger manifest for reference.
In the past 45 hours, the airline together with various foreign embassies have made every effort to establish contact with the next-of-kin but is still unable to identify many more family members.

Gov. Patrick Signs Bilingual Ballot Bill into Law in Boston Chinatown

Boston, July 17, 2014, — After years of hearings and persistent pressure by immigrant groups, including many in Boston Chinatown, Gov. Patrick signed the bilingual ballot bill (H. 4089) into law in Boston Chinatown on Tuesday with about 100 people from the community attending this historical ceremony. This law permanently provides for fully bilingual ballots in the City of Boston.
