Snow Emergency and Parking Ban in Effect on Boston’s First Work Day of 2014
Mayor Thomas M. Menino today declared a Snow Emergency and parking ban for the City of Boston will take effect TOMORROW, Thursday, January 2 at NOON. Boston Public Schools will be CLOSED FRIDAY, January 3. City business will be as usual tomorrow. Discounted parking will be available at 10 a.m. at several parking lots and garages to cars that display Boston resident parking stickers: http://www.cityofboston.gov/snow/parkingmap.asp

Mayor Menino Kicks off 38th Annual First Night Boston
Mayor Thomas M. Menino today held the city’s annual First Night public safety press conference, encouraging people to come to Boston to ring in the New Year during the 38th Annual First Night celebration. Officials from the Boston Police Department, Boston Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and the MBTA reminded revelers to celebrate the holiday safely and encouraged visitors to take advantage of public transportation when traveling through the city.

Donations Called for Families of Four Chinese Victims of Fatal Car Accident
Dear Friends,
With a very saddened heart, we’d like to tell you the tragedy happened on December 14, Saturday at around 8:10 PM, in Gainesville, Florida, mileage mark 387 on highway I-75. This fatal crash resulted in three people died on the spot and two others in critical condition. One of the victims Miss. Cong (Lisa) Ma is my God daughter who lived in Billerica, Mass.

University of Utah Establishes Partnership with Nankai University
Salt Lake City, — The University of Utah announced a new collaborative education program with Nankai University in Tianjin, China, that will expand global partnerships in Asia. Called the 3+X program, it will provide Chinese students the opportunity to attend both universities and receive a bachelor’s degree from Nankai University and master’s degree from the U.

CAAL to Host Chinese New Year Celebrations in Lexington

Thousands in Shanghai Celebrate Christmas with Massive Pillow Fight
Shanghai, Dec. 25, 2013, — As part of an annual Christmas tradition, thousands of people in Shanghai participated in a pillow fight on Christmas Eve. Many young people participate, saying it relieves stress from the high-pressure, face-paced life in the city.

“Fang” (meaning house) Selected as Word of 2013 in China
Beijing, Dec. 23, 2013, –“Fang” (房, meaning house) became the word of the year 2013 in China, Shandong TV announced at the ceremony of 2013 hot Chinese words on Sunday.
