  • The Last Sacred Place of Poetry Draws Rave Reviews at MIFF

    Boston, August 31, 2018, — The Last Sacred Place of Poetry, a documentary about the Grolier Poetry bookshop by Director Weiying (Olivia) Huang and Editor Mengyuan Lin, who received master degree in Digital Media program at Northeastern University. This is the only Chinese international student’s film, has been officially selected to the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival (MIFF) 2018. The premiere drew rave reviews from the audience at the Regent Theatre in Arlington on August 25.

  • Xiaowei Zhuang to Receive 2018 Dr H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics

  • Centennial Enterprises as Sources of Innovation in Emerging Economies

    Many less-developed countries and emerging economies have long-established enterprises. They were often founded at times when countries were colonies or had semi-colonial status. They have grown through the twists and turn caused by political upheaval related to national independence and post-independence experiments with nationalist, inward-looking economic policies. Ownership of companies may have changed, as some were nationalized, while others continued as privately owned ventures. Either way, there are many examples of centennial enterprises that on the basis of growth in domestic markets are now competitive international companies. Many of these enterprises were in the past important conduits for economic exchanges between the Western and less-developed countries. They were also conduits for the absorption, adaptation and further development of technology, and therefore important contributors to economic growth in emerging economies. Two well-known prominent examples of such centennial enterprises are the Ayala and Tata conglomerate enterprises in respectively the Philippines and India.

    On July 30, 2018, representing 156 Asian American organizations, Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE), in collaboration with Asian American Legal Foundation (AALF), filed an Amicus Brief with the United States District Court in Boston to oppose Harvard University’s discriminatory admissions practices and to support the plaintiff (Students for Fair Admissions, SFFA) in its lawsuit against Harvard University.

    August 15, 2018, (from jesuitseast.org) – Fr. Denis R. Como, SJ, died peacefully on Aug. 14, at 6:40 a.m. at Campion Center, Weston, Mass. Fr. Como was born on Jan. 3, 1936, and entered the Society of Jesus on Aug. 14, 1953, at Shadowbrook, Lenox, Mass. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1966, at Weston College, Weston, Mass. He pronounced his Final Vows on May 30, 1989, at the Jesuit Urban Center, Boston, Mass.

My answer is that the world is changing, unprecedentedly in its speed, depth and range. Then their follow-up question would be, then is the world changing for better or worse?
