  • Four MIT Students Named Schwarzman Scholars, Will Study at Tsinghua University

    Three undergraduate and one graduate student from MIT have been selected as Schwarzman Scholars. They are among the 129 members of the program’s class of 2018, who will pursue a year of study and leadership training at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

    MIT’s four students — Alix de Monts ’14, Lisa Ho, Anita Liu, and Melody Liu — will study public policy, economics and business, and international studies, and spend a year immersed in an international community of thinkers, innovators, and senior leaders in business, politics, and society. Expenses for each scholar are fully funded by the program, which is housed at Tsinghua University.

    Q: According to media reports, the Syrian government and the opposition signed three documents yesterday, namely a nationwide ceasefire deal, a list of control mechanisms to ensure the ceasefire and a statement to begin peace talks. The Syrian military declared that the ceasefire will be officially starting from the zero hour of December 30 local time. What is China’s comment?

  • Westlake Institute for Advanced Study Attracts International Talents

    Hangzhou, China, Dec. 10, 2016 — Westlake Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) hosts its founding ceremony today in Hangzhou. WIAS is a non-profit research institute that is dedicated to the advancement of natural sciences and the frontiers of engineering disciplines. WIAS is located in the beautiful Cloud Town of Xihu District of Hangzhou.

    WIAS hosted the second academic interview on November 20, 2016 in Hangzhou, China. Twenty outstanding talents from United States of America, Germany, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Taiwan participated in this round of interviews. Through presentations and questions, WIAS judges evaluated the candidates’ independent thinking abilities as well as their dedication to academic studies to select the best talents.

  • Shareco to Take 34.9% Stake in Global Eagle Entertainment

    Beijing, November 25, 2016 — On November 9, Beijing Shareco Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Shareco”, NEEQ: 837676) and Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. (“GEE”, NASDAQ: ENT) jointly announced that Shareco plans to acquire up to a 34.9% stake in GEE for approximately US$416mm, and would become GEE’s single largest shareholder post-transaction. Shareco and GEE also expect to form a China joint venture (the “China JV”), focusing on in-flight connectivity (“IFC”) and in-flight entertainment (“IFE”) services (collectively IFEC).

  • International Culture Festival Brings The World to Tsinghua

    Beijing, Starting from 10am on November 12 until late afternoon, the scale and popularity of the 8th annual international cultural festival was unprecedented in Tsinghua.
