    Boston, June 23, 2019, — A photo exhibition marking the 40th Anniversary of US-China diplomatic relations opened this afternoon in Boston Common. State Senator Joe Bencore, Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, Deputy Consul General Qiu Jian of Chinese Consulate in New Year and hundreds of guests attended the opening ceremony.

  • Hong Kong Government Response to Public Procession

    Dear friends of Hong Kong,

    You may have seen the news about the public processions over the past two Sundays in Hong Kong on the proposed legislative amendments on the extradition laws. Having regard to the strong and different views in society, the Hong Kong Government issued a statement on June 16, saying that the Government has suspended the legislative amendment exercise on the extradition laws at the Legislative Council and there is no timetable for restarting the process.

  • Celebrating Golden Spike 150th Anniversary, US-China Summit to be Held in May

    On May 10, 1869 in Promontory, Utah, the first transcontinental railroad across North America officially opened for through traffic with the driving in of the last “Golden Spike”. Over 600 miles of the most hazardous part of the Central Pacific route was mainly built by more than 12,000 Chinese workers, the majority of whom were originally from the Canton province. They toiled in extremely harsh condition and accomplished a seemingly impossible mission. In total, nearly 2000 lives were lost during the railroad construction though this is likely an underestimate.

  • UMass Boston Intends to Strengthen Collaboration with Chinese Universities

    Boston, Jan. 22, 2019, — As the Spring semester starts for local colleges this week, UMass Boston has closed its Confucius Institute, which boasts of a history of 12 years. The news resonated strongly on campus and in the community. Professors, staff, students and members of the community expressed deep regret over the university’s action and some called that the closure of the Confucius Institutes was a sign of “political correctness”.

  • Chinese Embassy Protests Huawei CFO Meng’s Arrest in Canada

    Boston, Dec. 5, 2018, — The Chinese embassy in Canada voiced its “firm opposition” to the reported arrest of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of China’s Huawei Technologies today. The Canadian police, at the request of the US, arrested a Chinese citizen who did not violate any US or Canadian laws, the embassy said in a statement posted on its official website.
