  • How the Latest Snowstorm Turned My Corolla into Prius

    By David Li, bostonese.com

Boston, March 8, 2013, — I live north of Boston, and had to go to Longwood area this afternoon for an appointment. When I opened the door this morning, there was already several inches of snow. I parked my car in a way that it was against the strong wind overnight. To my surprise, my Corolla looked more like a Prius with wet snow on top of the trunk shaped by the strong wind.

  • Seven Days of Chinese New Year in Beautiful Pictures

    By David Li, bostonese.com

When Blizzard Nemo dumped over 30 inches of snow in many parts of New England, it was only one day away from the Chinese New Year Day of 2013. From February 10 to 16, many celebrations of Chinese New Year were canceled due to poor traffic conditions caused by the heavy snowfall. However, there were a few events went ahead as scheduled. Thanks to some outstanding photographers, the images and the spirit of people celebrating the arrival of Year of Snake were captured with their DSLRs and with their tireless determination to preserve the precious memories.

  • Thoughts After Sandy – What Should We Eat in Emergency?

By Lin Kong, Master of Nutrition Science (from linjoyfulbite.wordpress.com)

How did you go through Sandy in the past two days? Being so lucky that no power outage happened to me on Monday, I just curled up in my coach and watched 3 movies. Obviously I was not prepared at all-no water was stored and I had only 3 cans of bean at home. Although I was lucky enough to be unaffected by the hurricane this time, the absence of coworkers the next day and the sad stories on the news made me think-what should we prepare before the crisis to carry us and our family through?

  • Eric Kester: That Speech for Fifth Grade Class President

By Eric Kester, author of That Book About Harvard

    My fellow 5th Grade-icans,

I am not running for class president because I have a bigger baseball card collection than the other candidates — which I do — but because I am a patriot and I love my class in a totally non-cootie related way. We were once the greatest class in the entire school, and we still are because the principal looks down on us and smiles. He loves our class, I love our class and we are crazy awesome, so keep that in mind while I now explain why we suck so hard.

  • Selected Poems by Tom Gee

By Tom Gee,Translated by Nancy Lamb Fray

Thoughts of Guangzhou in Autumn 1985

Yellow Flower Cemetery is so peaceful; Zhen Hai tower is so majestic.
Emerald trees emerge through billowing clouds; numerous vessels float on the river, almost blocking the flowing water.
The city has changed a lot throughout history; the people remain, some happy, some sad.
A bright moon shines above Pearl River and the sea.
I wonder how many autumn seasons have passed since the Han Dynasty.
