  • Randolph Man Convicted for Trafficking Multiple Women for Sex in Greater Boston

    Boston, Feb. 20, 2018 – A Randolph man has been convicted by a jury and sentenced to six to six-and-a-half years in state prison for trafficking multiple women for sex in Greater Boston and on Cape Cod, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today. He kept the money from the sexual encounters and would instead provide the women with drugs, primarily heroin.

  • Mayor Walsh and Community Members Celebrate the Opening of Boston Public Library Chinatown

    Boston, Feb. 3, 2018 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh and library community members today celebrated the opening of Boston Public Library Chinatown at 2 Boylston Street in the China Trade Center. The event marked the return of library services to the neighborhood for the first time in more than 50 years, and a $1 million investment in library services in Chinatown. Regular library hours will begin on Monday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.

  • MEMA Issues Statement on First Major Winter Storm of 2018

    Boston, Jan. 3, 2018, — MASSACHUSETTS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (MEMA) SITUATIONAL AWARENESS STATEMENT DATE: January 3, 2018 TIME: 12:00 PM SUBJECT: Significant Winter Storm Thursday; Dangerously Cold Weather This Weekend (Update #2)
    The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a strong but fast-moving coastal storm on Thursday that will bring accumulating snow across the entire state, with the eastern half of the state seeing the greatest amounts. Strong to damaging winds are also expected across much of the state; however the Cape and Islands will experience the strongest winds. These winds combined with wet, heavy snow in areas, bring potential for scattered to widespread power outages, particularly in southeastern MA. In addition, there is the potential for moderate and pockets of major coastal flooding, primarily in areas south of Boston along the coast of Plymouth County and in Cape Cod Bay. Following the storm, bitterly cold weather, with wind chill values of -15 to -35, will return on Friday and persist into the weekend.

  • Mayor Walsh Issues Tips for Residents in Advance of Bitterly Cold Weather

    BOSTON – Tuesday, December 26, 2017 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced a set of tips and guidelines in advance of this week’s forecast of bitterly cold weather. Forecasters are predicting low temperatures throughout the week with the coldest period Wednesday night into Thursday morning and Thursday night into Friday morning. With the wind chill, frostbite can occur within 30 minutes.

  • Secretary Acosta Presents Awards to MA Businesses Offering English Language Classes

    Oct. 24, 2017, Boston, — Last week, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta, spoke to a packed room of business leaders, immigrants, and English language program providers at Northeastern University. She was there to present awards at an event organized by English for New Bostonians to businesses that provide English classes for their immigrant workers, but she also had a personal message to share.

  • Mayor Walsh Signs Jim Brooks Community Stabilization Act

    Boston, October 6, 2017, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh today signed the Jim Brooks Community Stabilization Act (JBCSA), a home rule petition that will help ensure tenants and former homeowners are aware of their rights under State law. The petition was passed by the City Council on Wednesday, October 4.

  • City Council President Wu Authors Resolution in Support of Chinese American WWII Veterans

    BOSTON, Sept. 14, 2017, – This week the Boston City Council adopted a resolution authored by President Michelle Wu which calls on the U.S. Congress to pass H.R. 2358 / S.1050 The Chinese American World War II Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Act. At a time when the total Chinese American population in the U.S. and Hawaii was approximately 120,000 people, 20,000 Chinese Americans enlisted in the armed services. Almost half of those who served were not American citizens due to the limitations of the Chinese Exclusion Act.
