Mayor Walsh and Boston Police Will Lead National Night Out
Boston, August 3, 2018, — Mayor Martin Walsh today announced that he will join Boston Police Superintendent in Chief William Gross, who is set to be sworn in as Police Commissioner on Monday, elected officials, community leaders, clery and residents for the 35th Annual National Night Out celebrations in the City of Boston. The events are focused on celebrating and raising awareness of community policing throughout the City.

Mayor Walsh Appoints BPD’s First African American Commissioner
Boston, July 23, 2018 – Mayor Martin Walsh today announced the appointment of William Gross as the City of Boston’s first African American Commissioner of the Boston Police Department (BPD), who will assume the duties and responsibilities of Commissioner William B. Evans who is set to retire from the Boston Police Department on Saturday, August 4. Gross currently serve as as Superintendent in Chief of the Boston Police Department.

Interview with Michelle Wu on Boston City Council’s Short-term Rental Ordinance

Boston, June 20, 2018, — There will soon be new rules surrounding nightly rentals in Boston. You might have heard this on radio as Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu spoke about her support for these new rules on local radio stations.
On June 13, the Boston City Council voted 11 to 2 to approve a new ordinance, regulating corporate home-sharing platforms such as Airbnb.com. Mayor Walsh signed the bill two days later. On January 1st, 2019, the bill will be put into practice, effectively limiting short-term rentals to owner-occupants of the properties.

Mayor Walsh Appointed to Leadership Position with USCM
Boston, June 11, 2018, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced he has been appointed to be a member of the Board of Trustees, the top tier of leadership positions within the US Conference of Mayors, which is currently hosting its 86th annual meeting in Boston. The Trustees guide the organization’s work for the coming year, from connecting mayors to share ideas and tackle common challenges, setting a robust policy agenda at the national level, and elevating mayors’ voices on issues that face cities every day.

Boston Public Schools Closed on Thursday as Second Winter Storm in a Week Arrives
BOSTON – Wednesday, March 7, 2018 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced the City’s continued preparations for the winter storm, which is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of heavy, wet snow with most snow accumulating after 8pm tonight and ending around 6am Thursday morning. A winter storm warning will be in effect until 1pm Thursday afternoon. Sustained winds of 10-20MPH are expected throughout the duration of the storm, with wind gusts up to 40MPH.
Boston Public Works helped cleanup streets in Quincy after the March 2 winder storm caused significant damage in Quincy.
