Fung Highlights Record of Public Service in Debate of R.I. Republican Governor Candidates
Cranston, R.I., June 17, 2014, –- Today, Mayor Allan Fung, candidate for Governor of Rhode Island participated in the first televised debate of the Republican Primary Election, taking his opponent to task for a liberal agenda including tax increases and support for Obamacare. At the same time, Fung highlighted his own record of achievement in standing up for the taxpayers of Cranston, cutting government spending, reforming pensions, and balancing budgets without a tax increase for three straight years. This evening, Fung participated in his first ever televised debate against Ken Block, who four years ago ran an ill-fated third party campaign for governor. Block’s 2010 campaign launched attacks against the Republican Party, while gaining only six percent of the vote. Many Republicans believe Block secured a victory for then-independent, now Democrat, Governor Lincoln Chafee.

First TV commercial stresses Fung’s record as mayor.

Private Residence
Weston, Massachusetts
June 11, 2014
7:29 P.M. EDTTHE PRESIDENT: Thank you, everybody. Thank you. Well, it is wonderful to see Paul and Joanne really have been there from the get-go. And I’ve had the pleasure of their friendship and support — when people couldn’t pronounce my name in a lot of places — (laughter) — and I so appreciate the risk they took with me. And it means so much to be in their home today.

The Gloves Come off at 2014 Shangri-La Dialogue
By Nigel Inkster, Director, Transnational Threats and Political Risk
By general consensus, the 2014 Shangri-La Dialogue entered new territory. Until now, exchanges at the Dialogue had been very Asian in their circumspection and avoidance of controversy. Pressure has been building up for some time, driven by regional concerns about the implications of an increasingly assertive and militarily capable China disposed to challenge the United States’ status as guarantor of regional stability. But this year the dramatic new ingredient was a keynote address by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who expressed his desire to dispense with Japan’s historical baggage and begin a new chapter as a normal country and an exponent of active pacifism. Abe spoke of Japan’s emphasis on the importance of observing international law and norms and promoting human rights – pointed if unspoken references to a China widely perceived within the region to be doing neither, particularly with respect to its maritime policies. And Abe’s speech was followed by an even more blunt statement from US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel, who accused China of disrupting the regional order and stating that the US government would not stand idly by when confronted with breaches of international law.

Vote #1- Barry Chang, the Imperfect Idealist on June 3
By Ignatius Yuan Ding
It’s really comical! I couldn’t stop laughing when I read the news story in which Cupertino Mayor Gilbert Wong claims that he and other three council members were brazenly “bullied” by one colleague. A picture instantly ballooned in my mind – a giant, like the one in the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk,” had taken on the foursome in one tackle and reduced them into dust! Really?
