By Sun Xiaochen in Melbourne, Australia, and Lei Lei in Beijing (China Daily)

Losing the final of the Australian Open is unlikely to stop Li Na from becoming a global superstar.

China’s 30-year-old tennis ace twisted an ankle and also hit her head as she contested the final against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus on Saturday night. However, she earned immense respect, helped to rejuvenate her career and gave another boost for the sport in her home country.

At Australian Open, China’s Li Na came into play on Wednesday, just two wins away from hoisting her second career Grand Slam title.

The Chinese sixth seed, squaring off against second seeded Maria Sharapova for a place in the Melbourne final. But if Li was to move on, she would have to knock off Sharapova, who came in-form. The Russian had conceded only nine games throughout her entire run to the round of four.

Both Sharapova and Li had played well throughout their events…but Li came out absolutely on fire, and in control.

  • NBC Thanksgiving Night Stars: Tom Brady, Psy and Martha Steward

    By David Li, bostonese.com

As a Bostonian, I enjoyed watching Tom Brady and the New England Patriots picking apart New York Jets on NBC Thanksgiving night. Tom Brady tossed 3 touchdown passes, scored one touchdown from one yard out rushing into the end zone himself, and led his team to a 49:19 lopsided victory. The game was never in doubt after the Pats scored 35 points in the 2nd quarter, with offense, defense and the special teams all scoring TDs.
After local news, the Tonight show started at around 12:35 AM, an hour later than its usual start time. Jay Leno told the audience that Psy was going to perform on the show. By the time Tonight show ended on 1:25 AM, I was amazed at the enthusiastic response Psy got from Tonight show audience, including many military personnel. Many of them seemed to know the dance moves that Psy made famous in his YouTube video Gangnam Style, which got over 700 million views. In the picture, Psy is posing for the camera with the host Jay Leno, actor Bradley Cooper, and actress Natasha Leggero. Psy is dressed in the stage costume of “Gangnam Style.” (more…)

Boston – In a Youtube video titled “New York Yankees 2012 season headed off the rails,” Taiwan’s Next Media Animation created quite a few uncomfortable scenes for the NY Yankees and its fans. • North American Chinese Soccer League – A Brief History

    By Shangyou Scott Zhang, szhang@udel.edu

Since 1983, each year, about ten thousands Chinese students come to study in USA , and many settled down after graduation. Among these students, many love to play soccer and many are excellent soccer players. Most were good players in their school teams in China when they were undergraduate students. Hundreds, if not thousands of teams were formed by these students from China on many campuses since 1985. As NACSL records show, since 1986 many friendly soccer games were played between Chinese student soccer teams of nearby campuses. By 1990, regional soccer tournaments were organized which were participated by four to six teams within driving distance — around 300 miles.
