Prof. Guoping Zhang Invited to Speak at Global Diaspora Forum in Harvard University

Cambridge, Mass., Oct. 25, 2014, Global Diaspora Forum: 2014 Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Annual Conference for US Chinese Diaspora Beyond Border was recently held at Harvard University. It aims to deepen understanding of the situation of China-US trade and investment for American society, and promote bilateral trade and investment, and to provides new opportunities entrepreneurship and innovation development for US-Chinese Diaspora and investors.

Harvard US-China Economic Interaction Council (HUCEIC) and United Cultures Innovation Center For International Cooperation (UCIC) host for the 2014 Global Diaspora Week (GDW) China Forum, which is a national conversation organized by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). US Department of State Office of Global Partnerships and Massachusetts website (Massachusetts It’s All) publicized and supported the forum, and The Massachusetts Marketing Partnership(MMP) and the China Association of Corporate Governance(CACG) are also as two of the supporters.

More than 20 guests representative who are from different areas, such as medical, economic, culture and education, and the governments and non-governmental organizations, conduct the lectures and discussions around the five panels, including Translational Medicine in the Genomics Era, US-China Capital Market Relations and Dialogue Opportunities, Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Education and Cultural Industry, Career Development and an Abroad Community, and Entrepreneurship Spirit in a New Era. All-day conference attracts lively discussion and exchange of ideas by about 300 experts and scholars ,entrepreneurs, business leaders, government officials, university students from the east and the west of America.

Massachusetts State Representative Tackey Chan delivers his opening remarks, recalling to his family as the representative of the Boston Chinese about struggle history and his own experience in politics. Several experts and scholars and guests representative are invited to speak and share their experiences, who are Guoping Zhang, CEO of China Association for Corporate Governance and Executive Director of NANKAI-CCTV Co-Innovation Center For Index Research; Yunlong Zhao, Director of United Nations Strategic Think Tank; Simon Chu, Associate Director of United Nations Economic Development Council; Winston Kuo, Director of Laboratory for Innovative Translational Technologies at Harvard Medical School; Xiaobo Zhou, Director of Functional Genetics Laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Sherry Dong, Director of Community Health Improvement Programs Tufts Medical Center; Peter Wei, Founderand President of MVC Pro; Liang Tang, Associate Professor of Finance at Mount Ida College. Richard Elam, Executive Director of Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment, delivers the closing speech.


Prof. Guoping Zhang, CEO of China Association for Corporate Governance, who is also a Wertheim Fellow at Harvard University and NBER, and Robert H. Nelson who is the district director of SBA’s Massachusetts District Office, and Zen Chu who is a senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management, were invited as a guest speaker to attend the “2014 US-China Diaspora Entrepreneurship Forum”. Prof. Guoping Zhang gave the speech entitled “Brain Science, Corporate Governance and Entrepreneurship”, Mr. Nelson and Zen Chu speak aout “Different Entrepreneurship between Big Companies and Entrepreneurial Enterprises”. In the Panel of Entrepreneurship Spirit in a New Era, Three speakers subsequent discussions on several issues, such as what qualities differentiate entrepreneurs from business owners, How the disagreements among management members result in small business fails, what is the biggest challenge for start-ups, How can start-up companies successfully win investments from the VCs, How about motivating startup teams by stocks or stock options. Dr. Chen was as moderator, who is assistant professor of finance at Carson-Newman University. Three guests also replied the guests’ answers about how to solve the problems of small businesses respectively as expert and scholar, government officials and entrepreneur.

Prof. Zhang Guoping said, CACG (China Association for Corporate Governance) is as one of the Co-Organization or supporter of for several CHINA-US international conferences and forums this year, including “New York China Forum” and “Global Diaspora Forum: 2014 Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Annual Conference for US Chinese Diaspora Beyond Border”. All these forums and conferences gathered experts and scholars from Harvard University, MIT, New York University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Yale University, Princeton University, MGH, NIH, Peking University, Nankai University and other famous universities and organizations in China and abroad, and also included the well-known entrepreneurs and investors from Boston, New York, Washington DC, Silicon Valley and China , and Massachusetts State Representative and other government and NGO organizations responsible person, such as SBA’s Massachusetts District Office, Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment, China Association for Corporate Governance and United Nations Think Tank. By meeting a bridge for scientific experts, entrepreneurs and government departments, these conferences could help to promote CHINA-US economic exchanges and cooperation, which could increase great significance to promote innovation and development of Chinese economy and technology and its applications.

During the visiting In the United States, Prof. Zhang Guoping also supports and actively participates in various international conferences and forums related to the Chinese economy and CHINA-US exchange. She gave the report entitled “Corporate Governance: Quality, Premium, and Risk of Executives Governance in China” and “in “Female leadership in corporate governance, performance and risk responsibility of listed corporations” at Harvard University in April 2014. She also gave speech entitled “Interdisciplinary Research and Education:China Corporate Governance and Brain Decision” and “China-US Educational Model: Ecological Education, Cognitive Basis and Education Strategy” in “New York China Forum” in June 2014. She was invited as teacher representative to take part in overseas celebrations for the 95th anniversary of Nankai University and the 110th anniversary of Nankai Schools in Great Washington and Great Boston areas, and gave the speech entitled “Interdisciplinary, Alumni Culture and Leadership Sharing: Nankai to Harvard” and “Nankai University 95th Anniversary Celebration Overseas: Boston to Washington” in Maryland University in October 2014.
