A wide range of topics in innovation and entrepreneurship were discussed by distinguished speakers such as Ming Yi, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Commission of Industry and Information Technology, Min Tang, adviser to State Council of China, Xiaowei Zuo, leading Economist of China, Mr. Carmichael Roberts, North Bridge Partner, John Werner, MIT Media Lab/TEDx, and Charles Hsu, CEO of EBO Global.

Thanks to its leading research universities, the Greater Boston area has been a hub of hi-tech innovation and home of many startup companies over past decades. There is one bottleneck for these startups’ growth. When startups are small and only at the R&D stage, their valuation is relatively low, and the capital they need to get to the next level can’t be raised. But they often need a sizable investment to reach that large manufacturing scale and to reach a global market, which will eventually lead to a much higher valuation.

Investment and cooperation from China can be the solution. With China’s already existing manufacturing capability, US hi-tech startups’ capital needs are reduced, and valuation is increased. There is also added benefit of exposure to China’s huge market potential and investment capability.

Chinese government officials and economist discussed the benefits startups can enjoy by entering China. Leading economists from China spoke about the current state of China’s economy and review the latest policies related to US-China hi-tech industry cooperation.

They also showed videos of their innovative products like flying cars, wireless charging stations and the new process of manufacturing silicon wafers.

“It’s great to see our vision of combining the innovations of US tech startups with China’s manufacturing capabilities and vast market becoming reality at the summit,” said Mr. Yuquan Wang, founding partner of Haiyin Capital.
