Frank Chin Receives Life Time Achievement Award

Boston, April 8, 2014, — Eighty-two years old Frank Chin, also known as Uncle Frank in Boston Chinatown, was recently awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by Tufts Medical Center(TMC). The city of Boston also declared March 26, 2014 as Frank Chin Day.

Long time friend Thomas Menino was on hand to present the award trophy to Uncle Frank along with Michael Wagner, CEO of Tufts Medical Center. Mayor Menino praised Uncle Frank’s dedication to the community, and leadership in addressing issues the Chinatown community has faced over past decades.

“We were thrilled to honor Uncle Frank for his lifetime of leadership, advocacy and activism for the betterment of the Chinese and Chinatown community. His fingerprints are on so many pivotal services, programs, housing that benefits the community,” said Sherry Dong, Director of Community Health Improvement Programs at TMC.

Ryan Cuddyer, special assistant to Mayor Walsh’s Chief of Staff Daniel Koh, presented Frank with mayor’s citation, declaring March 26, 2014 Frank Chin Day.

Uncle Frank thanked TMC for working with the Chinatown community over the years, and was grateful for the award. Immigrated to Boston in the 1950s, Uncle Frank was once an active volleyball player, and traveled around the US for tournaments in the 1950s and 1960s.

State Sen. Petruccelli, Boston City Council President Bill Linehan, Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu, Uncle Frank’s family members and Chinatown community members attended the award ceremony. As a special surprise for Frank , lion dance was performed by Gung Ho Club at the ceremony.
