Los Angeles, CA, May 17, 2014, — The Orange Club Political Action Committee held its founding meeting yesterday with about 250 people attending. Chinese American candidates George Yang, candidate for Lt. Governor, Peter Kuo, candiate for CA Senator district 10, and Ling Ling Chang, candidate for CA Assembly district 55, attended the meeting. Mr. Bob Huff, CA Senate minority leader, also attended the meeting together with his wife Mei Mei Huff.
With the primary elections only a little more than two weeks away, the candidates were eager to make their cases to the emerging political force represented by the Orange Club.
Alex Chen was elected to be the founding president of the Orange Club. He thanked Mr. and Mrs. Bob Huff for attending the meeting, and the beautiful Chinese songs Mr. Huff performed.
Mr. Chen pointed out that the Orange Club was founded to unite the political power of Chinese Americans, encourage active political participation. He particularly thanked the contributions Mr. and Mrs. Huff made in fighting against Senate Constitution Amendment 5(SCA5) early this year. In this year’s elections, Mr. Chen stated that the Orange Club will help break the one-party super-majority in the state, and support Chinese American candidates.
According to its website, the Orange Club was established on March 17, 2014. It was on the same day when Mr. John Perez, CA Assembly Speaker returned SCA5 to the CA Senate as protests again the constitution amendment erupted across the state by Asian Americans.
“During the SCA5 crisis, we realized the Chinese Americans are isolated from each other. We need to establish a strong advocate for ourselves in the political arena. We need to remain vigilant by seeking out visionary guidance and a coherent strategy to counteract what comes after SCA5. Without a single voice and a common purpose, our future would be uncertain and vulnerable as ever,” stated the Orange Club in its website.
