  • The Changing Face of Cervical Cancer in China, A 10-year Study by Tongji Medical College

Durham, NC (PRWEB) September 24, 2013, –Over the last few decades, China, like the majority of the world, has seen a steady decrease in deaths from cervical cancer, due in large part to screening efforts and improved treatment. However, the disease still poses a significant threat to women, as it remains the third most common and among the most deadly cancers in women worldwide, with a third of new cases occurring in China. Moreover, the incidence of the disease has increased among young women. These trends signal the need for a large-scale, thorough assessment of the cervical cancer landscape in China – a database that did not exist until recently.

  • Activists Protest BRA’s Tax Break to Developer, Call for Economic Justice

Boston, September 26, 2013, –- On City Hall Plaza today, a group of activists from the Right to the City Alliance called on the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) to have greater accountability to residents and to use public resources for the public good. On the agenda tonight for the BRA board meeting was the approval of a $7.8 million tax break to Millenium Partners, the developer of the former Filene’s site in Downtown Crossing.

  • House Passed Spending Bill That Will Likely Shut down Government

    By David Li, bostonese.com

Washington, Sept. 30, 2013, –In a 15-minute vote, U.S. House of Representatives voted 228 to 201 to pass a spending bill three and half hours before the new fiscal year begins at midnight. The irony of passing this bill is that it makes the likelihood of a government shutdown unavoidable, and shows the failure of the reported moderate Republican revolt. Twelve Republicans, including Michele Bachmanm and Peter King, and nine Democrats voted against party lines.
