  • Blackstone’s Schwarzman on Collaboration with China

By “Dr. Tea”, CEO of Mylovetea Company

Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 2, 2015, — Stephen Allen Schwarzman, chairman and CEO of the Blackstone Group, visited Harvard University and gave his speech at the Science Center on his company and their collaboration with China, especially the Anbang Group. The personal fortune of Mr. Schwarzman is estimated to be $10.8 billion and ranked at 122nd on the World’s Billionaires List by Forbes.

Mr. Schwarzman graduated from Yale and don’t known much about the Harvard campus. I gave him a tour. He joked he was not smart enough to get into Harvard and he went to Yale when he was 18. He contacted Harvard Dean of Admission and yet the Dean said Yale was pretty good too. Stephen said, later on, the Dean felt regretful for not enrolling him to Harvard though. Also, he felt more excited to run a company than a school. However, he said: “never stop learning!”

    By Beatrice Lee, bostonese.com columnist

In the morning of Jan. 24, I was debating whether I wanted to go to Chinese American Association of Lexington’s (CAAL) Chinese New Year celebration or not. The ride decided for me as I could not change the time. I’m glad that I did. I probably was among the very first ones getting there. They were still trying to set up the place.

  • The Pearl River Collection — Forward and Acknowledgements

By Nancy Fray, translator and calligrapher of The Pearl River Collection, Selected Poems of Tommy Gee

When Tommy Gee and I first met, I had been studying Calligraphy for three years. I was being taught to copy the classic Tang poems with a brush in Li Shu style. I wanted to compose something different – something that would stand out. I also was beginning to study Mandarin and was curious to understand exactly what I was writing. We talked about translating some of his poems to further my education. As this project progressed, I realized that I wanted to introduce his beautiful poetry to English speaking readers. We decided to proceed with this book.

  • This Asian Student’s Essay Won Admission to Johns Hopkins

    Hometown
    By Quan

Life without language: all the ideas, thoughts, and emotions present, but unable to be expressed. This is how I picture my grandfather when he first immigrated to America with my grandmother and their nine children. Lost, he wanders around, hoping to bump into someone who can understand him. He raises his own children to know Vietnamese and hopes his future grandchildren would also be connected to the language of their ancestors. But when I form my lips into unnatural shapes to speak these words, they come out pathetically.
