  • Filmmaker Weiying Huang Receives Grant for Her Next Film after Best Human Interest Documentary Award

    Boston, May 27, 2021, — Congratulations to filmmaker Weiying Olivia Huang for receiving a 2021 Cambridge Arts grant for her next documentary. Overseen as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, this program supports art projects representing the wealth of artistic activity throughout the city of Cambridge.

    This is the second time director Huang(pictured above) has been so awarded by the Cambridge Art Council, and her previous grant led to her 2020 documentary City as Canvas: Above the Free Walls, winner of the Best Human Interest Documentary Award at the World Premiere Film Awards. It also received a nomination for Best New England Film at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival, and at over 10 other film festivals all around the world.

    Councilor Michelle Wu Calls for Summer of Play in Boston

    Boston, May 25, 2021, — City Councilor At-Large and Candidate for Mayor Michelle Wu, joined by José Massó, Announcer and Producer of WBUR’s ¡Con Salsa!, members of the arts community and residents, called for a summer of play and issued proposals to transform, expand and connect our arts and culture sector to every neighborhood today. She declared that summer 2021 should be a summer of play as part of Boston residents’ healing and reconnection, and also launched an innovative Playstreets proposal to reimagine Boston’s relationship with public space. The Boston Playstreets proposal would emulate Philadelphia’s, closing hundreds of streets with a volunteer supervisor, including food, art and activities for kids, hiring DJs and artists, and plugging in our professional sports teams and private companies to participate.

  • Jeff Bezos Issues His Final Letter to Shareholders as Amazon CEO

    To our shareowners:

    In Amazon’s 1997 letter to shareholders, our first, I talked about our hope to create an “enduring franchise,” one that would reinvent what it means to serve customers by unlocking the internet’s power. I noted that Amazon had grown from having 158 employees to 614, and that we had surpassed 1.5 million customer accounts. We had just gone public at a split-adjusted stock price of $1.50 per share. I wrote that it was Day 1.

  • Tufts Medical Center Opens Vaccine Appointment Website

    Dear community members,

    Due to new vaccine supply we are able to open back up appointment scheduling for COVID vaccinations beginning this afternoon after 3:30pm. Please go to https://www.tuftsmcvaccine.org/ to set up an appointment for vaccination. Please call 617-636-6119. to get assistance in Chinese.

    As a reminder, the Tufts MC vaccination site is located at: 279 Tremont Street, Boston Marriott Hotel.

    Please be reminded, you will not have the option to choose the vaccine you receive. It is based on what is available the day you come in for your appointment. Please see below regarding current eligibility for vaccinations in MA in chart below:

    All Phase 1 who have not yet gotten vaccinated, including first responders and healthcare workers, and those in nursing homes and congregate settings.

    Phase 2, in categories 1-4, including individuals 60+, with at least 1 co-morbidity, frontline workers (including grocery, food, transit, etc.), educators and school staff, childcare workers, etc.

    Please share/distribute the information. We appreciate the opportunity to vaccinate as many community members as possible. We will continue to share updates as we have them.

  • Boston’s First Annual Lunar New Year Rolling Parade Kicks off on Sunday!

    Boston, Feb. 16, 2021, — Chinese American Citizens Alliance Boston (C.A.C.A. Boston), the Chinese American Heritage Foundation (CAHF) and Chung Wah Academy of New England (Chung Wah) will kick off the 1st Greater Boston Lunar New Year Rolling Parade on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Rain/snow day will be Sunday, February 28, 2021. The participates will assemble at 11:00 along Surface Road (Rose Kennedy Greenway) starting in front of the Lion Gateway in Boston’s Chinatown.

  • Letter to MIT Chancellor Calls Arrest of Prof Chen “worst cases of academic racism”

    Boston, Jan. 15, 2021, — FBI agents Prof. Gang Chen of MIT on Jan. 14, 2021, and charged that Prof Chen committed wire fraud, failed to file a foreign bank account report and made a false statement in a tax return. The letter titled “MIT and racism Re: A slippery road” below was written by Prof Yi Rao of Peking University.

  • FDA Issues Emergency Use Authorization for First COVID-19 Vaccine

    Washington, DC, Dec. 11, 2020, — Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use authorization (EUA) for a vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in individuals 16 years of age and older. The emergency use authorization allows the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S.
