    Boston, May 29, 2013, — The 34th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will be held on June 8-9, 2013 at the banks of Charles River in Boston and in Cambridge. As usual, this year’s festival includes dragon boat races and cultural exhibitions and performances.

  • Birth Tourists from China Not the kind of Tourism California Expects

    The city council in Arcadia, California, is cracking down on maternity- tourism businesses that are violating the law. Six to eight boarding houses have been closed in the past several months, and an additional 12 are under investigation. Santa Ana Inn is known to house pregnant women who are to give birth in the US. The hotel hasn’t been cited for any violations.

  • NAAAP Boston Awards Scholarships as Boston Marks One Month Anniversary of the Marathon Bombings

    Boston, May 16, 2013, — The National Association of Asian American Professionals Boston chapter (NAAAP Boston) awarded Dan Minh Chu, Tuan Ho and Kasey Shen of the 2013 NAAAP Boston Future Leader Award. The three exceptional students received a total of $15,000 of scholarships at NAAAP Boston’s Scholarship Gala on May 15 at Hilton Boston Back Bay. The event was coincided with the one month anniversary of Boston bombings that happened just blocks away from the hotel. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was broadcasting live at the nearby Boston Bombing makeshift memorial when the award ceremony took place.

  • Mayor Menino Tours District Hall of Boston Innovation District

    Boston, May 22, 2013, — Mayor Thomas M. Menino today gave a full progress update on Boston’s innovation center, and revealed the name of the building under construction at 75 Northern Avenue on the South Boston Waterfront. District Hall will play a central role in the social infrastructure of the growing Innovation District and will serve as a home base for entrepreneurs to make connections, build relationships, and convene programs and events.

  • Xiaojie Li Cleared of Trespassing Charge in Nashua Apple Store Taser Arrest Incident

    On Dec. 11, 2012, Xiaojie Li of Newton, Mass. was arrested by policemen with the help of Taser when she tried to purchase iPhone in the Apple store at Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH. Five months later, Ms. Li appeared in the circuit court of Nashua, facing trespassing and resisting arrest charges in the afternoon of May 10. The judge heard the testimonies from various witnesses and interrogation of witnesses by the attorneys of both sides. At end of the half-day trial, the judge dismissed the trespassing charge and upheld the resisting arrest charge, but declined to issue any penalty against Ms. Li. The record of resisting arrest will be removed if Ms. Li commits no new violation in the next three years, according to the ruling.
