ACDC Announces Films at the Gate, September 13-15
Boston, MA, August 5, 2013 – Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) hosts its 8th annual Films at the Gate from Friday to Sunday, September 13-15 at Chinatown Park beside the Gate on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. This is a free, outdoor film festival showcasing family-friendly kung fu films. Each evening begins at 7:00 PM with cultural performances and an 8pm start for the feature film.

Amy Kao — An American Beauty
Amy Kao was recently selected as Miss New Jersey National US 2013. She will be competing in the 2014 Miss National US pageant in San Antonio next summer. Miss National US Incorporated (MNUS) is a national, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses on community outreach and educational scholarships. It is a leadership program for young women and teens.

Arthur Wong Receives Second Bronze Star

Boston, August 2, 2013, — Arthur Wong was among the first groups of American soldiers who landed on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944, and was later seriously injured in November 1944 when the Allied Forces advanced into Germany. Sixty-five years after he returned from WWII battlegrounds, Arthur Wong finally received nine U.S. military medals, including Purple Heart, Bronze Star, with the help from Senator John Kerry in 2010.

P&G/Gillette Donates Land to Artists For Humanity
BOSTON, July 30, 2013 –- Artists For Humanity (AFH), an organization that provides under-resourced youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts, today announced a land gift from its neighbor and partner Gillette/Procter & Gamble. This generous donation will enable AFH, currently among the largest employers of teens in Boston’s creative economy, to expand its current facility in South Boston’s Innovation District and significantly increase highly-sought positions in its youth employment programs.

Mayoral Candidate Charlotte Richie Convenes Youth Dialogue on Trayvon Martin Verdict
Boston, July 30, 2013 – Charlotte Golar Richie hosted a youth summit on Saturday, July 27, and discussed issues related to the criminal justice system and its impact on the city’s youth, particularly young men of color. The discussions centered on ways to be proactive in dealing with the myriad of issues impacting young men and women, from high unemployment and dropout rates to curtailing drugs and violence in the neighborhoods.

Boston Mayoral Candidate Charlotte Golar Richie tuned in, taking notes as more than fifty youth from across the city participated in a Listening Session for Youth Leaders at the Roxbury YMCA on Saturday. Some of the issues and concerns of attendees included violence, gangs, lack of vocational and educational opportunities. One of Richie’s proposed plans, as Mayor of Boston, is to establish an Office of Youth Affairs that will address the many issues confronting Boston’s young people.

Boston Celebrates 23rd Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act
Boston, July 25, 2013, — Mayor Thomas M. Menino today joined the Commission for Persons with Disabilities and members of Boston’s disabled community on City Hall Plaza to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Established by Mayor Menino in 1995, the City of Boston’s Disabilities Commission promotes complete inclusion for individuals with disabilities in Boston. Today’s event was the third ADA Day celebration hosted by the City of Boston.
