  • Severe Thunderstorms Knock Down Trees and Power Lines

    Boston, August 5, 2015, — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT for Southern Essex, Northwestern Plymouth, Norfolk, Suffolk and southeastern Middlesex counties. At 4:09 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing large damaging hail up to golf ball size and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from Bedford to Needham to Medway, moving east at 40 mph.

  • Be Proud! Massachusetts Has Cut Power Plant Carbon Pollution over 30% since 2008

    Boston, August 3, 2015, — As the White House will announce The Clean Power Plan later today, we should be proud that Carbon Pollution from power plants in this state has reduced by over 30% since 2008. At the same time, the production of renewable energy increased by 46% from 2008 to 2014.

  • It’s Official — The Past Winter Is a Disaster in MA

    Boston, April 13, 2015, — The President today declared a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ordered federal aid to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the area affected by a severe winter storm, snowstorm, and flooding during the period of January 26-28, 2015.

  • LA Lakers and East West Bank Plant Trees at Local School

    The Lakers, East West Bank, TreePeople, community and state partners work to tear out 4,000 square feet of asphalt and plant 30 trees on school campus.

    Los Angeles, Calif.— Julius Randle, the Lakers Girls, and East West Bank will join with TreePeople staff, partners and over 100 volunteers on Saturday, March 14th, to transform 20th Street Elementary School’s urban campus. More than 4,000 square feet of impermeable asphalt has been removed to make way for a total of 30 Raywod Ash, Australian Willow and Crape Mertyle trees to grace the schoolyard and provide some needed shade and nature. The tree planting is part of the Lakers Trees for Threes eco-initiative. East West Bank has pledged to plant a tree in Los Angeles for every three pointer made by the Lakers team at STAPLES Center. The 30 trees planted on Saturday are just some of the trees earned by the Lakers this season.

  • Wind Chill Advisory Issued after Record Snowfall

  • Boston Prepares for Weekend Blizzard, Again!

    Boston, Feb. 12, 2015, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced that the City of Boston has secured additional resources from Connecticut, New York City and the National Guard to assist Boston’s Public Works Department (PWD) in ongoing snow removal operations.

  • Three-Day Snowstorm to Add 20+ Inches on Top of Record Snowfall, Boston Schools Close on Monday and Tuesday

    BOSTON – February 8, 2015 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced today that due to the ongoing snow storm, with expected accumulations of up to 24 inches, Boston Public Schools will be closed Monday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 10. A snow emergency parking ban will go into effect in the City of Boston at 4pm today, and towing will being at 6pm.

  • Boston Prepares for Blizzard of 2015

    Boston, Jan. 26, 2014, — Gov. Charlie Baker and Mayor Martin Walsh has been busy to get the state and city ready for a huge snowstorm starting tonight. According to forecast by National Weather Service, the snowstorm will begin in Boston area starting this evening and last for at least 24 hours and bring 2-3 feet snowfall across the state.
