    Malden, Mass., Jan. 20, 2022, — Chinese Culture Connection is pleased to host its 13th Malden Annual Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, January 29, from 6:30-8:30 PM!     It’s our honor to work again with the U.S. Postal Service to unveil the limited edition of the Lunar New Year Stamp. Come and be the first to view the stamp of the year of the tiger.

    As one of the earliest Xiangsheng groups in the eastern United States, Fuyun Xiangsheng club was founded in June 2011. It was initiated by eight Ph.D. students at MIT. After ten years of development and growth, it gradually grew into a crosstalk group with more than 100 active members and more than 30 resident actors.

  • Mayor Wu and Others Congratulate the Grand Opening of American Academy of World Music


    Weston, Mass, Dec. 20, 2021, — The grand opening ceremony of American Academy of World Music (AAWM) was held at the historical Henderson House in Weston on Dec. 18. Many famous musicians in the greater Boston Area and community leaders attended this event. Boston Mayor and many distinguished guests from around the world offered their congratulations via a video clip below.

    “Congratulations to American Academy of World Music. We are so excited to see the new opportunities for culture and bringing the communities together that you represent, to pass on to the next generation. Thanks to everything you are doing!” said Mayor Wu in the video.

    “My name is Yazhi Guo, I am the co-founder and President of The American Academy of World Music (AAWM), It is a new music school that will bring eastern and western music together. On behalf of Gloria Rong and the other co-founders, we are proud to bring you the grand opening of our school. I want to thank those who gave their support from all over the world.” Mr. Guo said during the ceremony.

    Mr. Guo states that AAWM will focus on educating the next generation of musicians, bringing them together. He said: “Boston is a great city with famous colleges such as Harvard University, MIT, Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory of Music. With their rich resources, we can connect artists from the world to build a legacy for the academy. We believe our students will lead the future of world music, and create different styles of music. We also believe that this vision will realize our dream of global unity and world peace.”

    Beatrice Lee, a well known reporter for local Chinese newspapers at 90-year-young, attended the grand opening ceremony while still recovering from a fall at home. She has long been a fan of Mr. Yazhi Guo and Ms. Tao He, and wished great success for AAWM in her brief remarks.

    Mr. Yazhi Guo and students performed an original song Nice to Meet You at the ceremony. The Chinese instrument hulusi used for this song was re-invented by Mr. Guo so that it has much more range than the traditional hulusi. Mr. Guo also made improvement to the suona instrument. Mr. Guo has been called an innovator of Chinese instruments, and his new mission now is to introduce innovation to music by bringing together the best genres of music from all over the world at American Academy of World Music.

  • MARA to Host Launch Party at Kowloon Restaurant on Nov. 9

    Boston, Nov. 2, 2021, — The Massachusetts Asian Restaurant Association is set to host its official launch party on Tuesday, November 9 from 6:30 PM to 10 PM at the Kowloon Restaurant located at Route 1 North, Saugus, MA. Guest speakers include: Donald Wong and Tackey Chan, Massachusetts House or representatives, and Bob Luz, Massachusetts Restaurant Association President. American restaurateur, Ming Tsai will be on a video call for the event.

  • Boston’s First Annual Lunar New Year Rolling Parade Kicks off on Sunday!

    Boston, Feb. 16, 2021, — Chinese American Citizens Alliance Boston (C.A.C.A. Boston), the Chinese American Heritage Foundation (CAHF) and Chung Wah Academy of New England (Chung Wah) will kick off the 1st Greater Boston Lunar New Year Rolling Parade on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Rain/snow day will be Sunday, February 28, 2021. The participates will assemble at 11:00 along Surface Road (Rose Kennedy Greenway) starting in front of the Lion Gateway in Boston’s Chinatown.

  • Governor Baker Declares Juneteenth Independence Day in Massachusetts

    June 19, 2020, Boston, — Governor Charlie Baker today issued a proclamation declaring June 19, 2020 as “Juneteenth Independence Day” in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Celebrated each year on June 19th, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and is an opportunity to reflect on the need to continue working toward racial justice.

  • Funeral of WWII Hero Arthur Wong Held Today

    May 1, 2020, — Mr. Arthur Wong of Boston Chinatown passed away on April 26, 2020 at age 96. The funeral of Mr. Wong was held today at Deware Funeral Home in Quincy, Mass.

    Only eight people were allowed in the funeral home due to the COVID-19 pandemic related restrictions. Mr. Rich Wong, son of Arthur Wong, told bostonese.com that Arthur passed away Sunday night at his apartment in Chinatown with family members along side.

  • Directory Huang Speaks at Cambridge Public Library

    Boston, Sept. 6, 2019, — A good documentary film can bring a topic into focus by the public, and might also save a historical bookstore. On Tuesday this week, the Cambridge Public Library of Massachusetts invited Chinese international filmmaker and director Weiying Olivia Huang to hold a documentary film screening and discussion of “Grolier Poetry Book Shop: The Last Sacred Place of Poetry”. The symposium also invited a well-known poet of Massachusetts, Doug Holder, who is the founder of Ibbetson Street Press, to participate in a discussion with Director Huang after the screening.

  • Porter City Model Draws Rave Reviews at International Trade Services Expo

    Guanghzou, China, — The first International Trade Services Expo was held on June 2, 2019 in Guangzhou, China. This Expo is China’s first fair with the theme of international trade services. Mr. Chen Zongjian, the founder of the Porter City and the new economic expert, was invited to deliver a keynote speech as a research expert in the field of trade and the Porter City model.

    In his speech, Mr. Chen The made a deep exposition on the future development direction of international trade and trade services and the development dividend of Chinese enterprises’ international trade, and was highly recognized by exhibitors. The speech by Mr. Chen received loud applause and rave reviews from attendees. Mr. Chen visited Boston in 2018, and was very impressed by the innovation-based economy in the greater Boston area.

  • Maya Lin’s Speech at 2018 Yale SVA Commencement

    New York City, — On Monday, May 7, 2018, Radio City Music Hall hosted the 2018 Yale School of Visual Arts Commencement Exercises. Proud parents, elated students —1,180 graduates receiving degrees—and seas of red graduation gowns filled the beautiful Art Deco space on this glorious day.

    The centerpiece highlight, of course, was the keynote speech by designer and environmentalist Maya Lin, an artist “who interprets the natural world through science, history, politics and culture,” as so perfectly put by SVA Board of Directors member Joseph F. Patterson.

    A recipient of both the National Medal of Arts (2009) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2016), Lin was introduced to the art world in 1981, when as a 21-year-old undergraduate at Yale, she won a fierce competition to design the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which was completed in 1982 and redefined the concept of a monument, standing as one of the most powerful memorials in modern memory.

    Washington, D.C., May 16, 2019, — Upon the invitation of Asian American Coalition for Education (AACE), Mr. Kenneth Marcus, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights will be giving a featured speech on “Providing Equal Protection of the Laws to All American Children” in the First National Conference on Equal Education Rights, to be held on Monday May 20, 2019 in the National Press Club in Washington DC.
