    ¿OISTE? PODER LATINO 2013 FUNDRAISER

[Boston] On Thursday, September 12th from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm at the Artists for Humanity Epicenter, 100 West 2d Street, South Boston, the board and staff invite you to PODER LATINO 2013, a fundraiser to raise funds for ¿OISTE? the Latino Civic Education Initiative.   We will be honoring Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino and the event will be co-hosted by Tom Ashbrook, host of WBUR’s On Point, and Jarrett Barrios, CEO of Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.

¿Oíste? was founded in 1999  by several Latino activists from across the state who were concerned about the lack of Latino political representation and civic participation in Massachusetts. The mission is to advance the political, social and economic standing of Latinos and Latinas in the state.  ¿Oíste? believes that civic education, leadership development and civic engagement are pathways to fostering individual and community empowerment. Its programs help Latinos and Latinas to critically and civically engage in the life of their community, and to change systems and structures that have historically barricaded their access to quality education, health care, housing and economic development.
