Malden Beats: Firebrand Concert Series Kicked Off, Teen Enrichment Center Coordinator Hired

2012-2013 Firebrand Concert Series Season Kicked Off

On October 12, Mayor Christenson attended “Dream With Us” which kicked off the 2012-2013 Firebrand Concert Series Season at St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish. Many Malden residents filled the church to hear the Soprano and Spring Trio’s version of works by Purcell, Mozart, De Falla, Villa-Lobos, Bernstein, and Schoenfield. Additionally, an original composition by the Trio’s Composer-in-Residence, Oliver Caplan, served to be a big hit.

“I am honored that these artists are performing in Malden,” said Mayor Christenson. “The music was out of this world and reinforces my belief that Malden is an ideal environment for artists to thrive in.”

Malden Hires Teen Enrichment Center Coordinator

The City of Malden is excited to announce that longtime Malden Resident Catherine MacMullin has been hired as the Malden Teen Enrichment Center Coordinator. Cathy has long been active in Malden working with various community and youth programs as well as charitable groups.

Last year, Cathy led a group of Malden residents to examine and explore positive solutions to issues faced by teens. Cathy teamed with the Malden YMCA, YWCA, and the Partnership for Community Schools to discuss issues, recruit volunteers, raise funds and met with teens for input. Through this work, the need for a program for teens was realized.

Because of the hard work and dedication of many, the Teen Enrichment Center is scheduled to open late this fall and will provide various fun and recreational activities in a safe, supervised, enjoyable environment for Malden teens.

“I couldn’t be happier that Cathy will be filling this very important position,” said Mayor Christenson. “I look forward to working with Cathy and I know our teens will be in good hands.”

“Our group has worked very hard in getting the Teen Enrichment Center to become a reality,” said City Councillor Greg Lucey. “With Cathy on board, we are going to get our doors open and start serving the over 3,000 teens in our City.” Councillor Lucey is a board member of the Malden Teen Enrichment Center.
