Queen of Chinese Folk Music Song Zuying Comes To Radio City Music Hall

Song Zuying, the acclaimed Chinese soprano widely considered the “Reigning Queen” of Chinese folk songs, is embarking on a concert tour of the United States this coming February. Her New York concert, together with the American Symphony Orchestra and its Chorus, will be held at the Radio City Music Hall at 7 PM on February 16, 2013.

As one of the most renowned musical performers in China, Ms. Song has held solo concert performances at international venues such as the Sydney Opera House (2002), the Vienna Golden Hall (2004), the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts (2008), and London’s Royal Albert Hall (2012). Ms. Song performed a duet with tenor Plácido Domingo at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. As part of the opening festivities of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China, Song Zuying joined tenor Andrea Bocelli, singer Jay Chou, and concert pianist Lang Lang in a concert titled Charming China at Shanghai Stadium, in front of an audience of 80,000 people.

Ms. Song’s awards and accolades include a Gold Art Award from the Kennedy Center, an honor which she became one of the first two Chinese nationals to receive. She also won an Award of Outstanding Contribution to Chinese National Vocality, among several others. Her CD The Diva Goes to the Movies: A Centennial Celebration of Chinese Film Song was nominated for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in the category of Best Classical Crossover Album.

According to Rachel Yang, director of Asian Cultural Center New York, Ms. Song’s February Radio City concert, a part of the “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” annual event, is organized by the Overseas Exchange Association of China and co-organized by the Asian Culture and Media Group USA. Beginning in 2009, the “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” series has sponsored many elite art troupes of China to help promote Chinese culture and celebrate the traditional Chinese Spring Festival around the world. “It will be an unforgettable evening with beautiful performances from best musicians and singers from China and the USA,” said director Yang.
