    【侨报周末特约记者李强波士顿图文报道】 6月29日下午，纽英伦中华公所第一届儿童绘画艺术班画展在中华公所会议室举行。中华公所绘画艺术班的郭义芳老师、学生、家长，以及中华公所职员约40人出席了画展开幕式，19幅学生的素描、水彩和丙烯画作参加了展览。

  • Reflections on an Active Retirement

    Four years ago, much to the surprise of my dean, I told him that I planned to retire in 2001 after 40 years on the faculty of Harvard University (Note added 2007. Currently in the US there is no mandatory retirement age for university professor. This has in fact becoming somewhat of a problem since many tenured faculty chooses to stay on rather than retire. Thus, they block openings and advancement for younger faculties). Since then I have prepared my self for this transition, reflected on my life, and finally gone through the experience. Collected below are some insights that I learned from others, discovered for myself, and emotions that I experienced before, during, and after the transition. They are offered as amusement, free advice (probably worth the same), and my own catharsis.

    Washington, D.C., July 10, 2013, — America has always been a nation of immigrants, and throughout the nation’s history, immigrants from around the globe have kept our workforce vibrant, our businesses on the cutting edge, and helped to build the greatest economic engine in the world. However, America’s immigration system is broken and has not kept pace with changing times. Today, too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers and there are 11 million people living and working in the shadow economy. Neither is good for the economy or the country. It is time to fix our broken immigration system.

  • 前进会单车马拉松筹款过万 失业金申请电子化伸援手

    【本报特约记者李强波士顿图文报道】 6月15日上午9点，华人前进会青少年动力组的华埠自行车马拉松（Bike-a-thon）活动正式开始，150多位参加者从波士顿公园出发，沿查尔斯河途径水镇和剑桥市，返回出发点，全程共16英里。

    中午时分，一辆辆自行车陆续抵达波士顿公园西北角的终点。虽然已经骑行了两个多小时，但晴朗的天气、沿途的好风景让青年学生们感到意犹未尽。华人前进会的工作人员早已经准备好了有多家餐馆赞助的食物和饮料在终点等候。

  • “微信之父”张小龙 华中科大走出的软件大师

    盛夏的广州中山大道，阳光热辣，车水马龙。马路的一侧，伫立着一幢外观最普通不过的楼房。蓝色的玻璃外墙，外形中规中矩。

    这幢挂着“南方通信大厦”牌子的楼房，是腾讯的广州研发中心，QQ邮箱、QQ手机管家、QQ通讯录……这里诞生过不少用户数量级过亿的产品。其中最耀眼的，莫过于被称为腾讯“船票”的微信。
