Newton, Mass. — Newton’s first citywide Chinese Cultural Festival will be held at the Newton Cultural Center at 225 Nevada Street on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 5 PM, with interesting and exciting activities for everyone. The richness of Chinese traditions and philosophies will be showcased through a kaleidoscope of exhibits, live performances, costumes, panel discussions and cultural presentations that all are invited to come to enjoy.

【波士顿华人双语网综合报道】蛇年春节的波士顿，瑞雪纷飞、寒风刺骨。但是春节以来的一系列文艺活动，带给人们许多温馨美好的记忆。而郎朗、杨光等世界级的艺术家也即将在波士顿登台表演，他们将同扎根于波士顿的波士顿中国音乐家协会的音乐家们，以及天使舞蹈艺术公司的演员们在蛇年新春的连续几个周末里，带给波城观众精彩纷呈的音乐会和舞蹈晚会。
郎朗音乐会2月28日、3月1日、2日晚波士顿交响乐大厅举行
著名中国钢琴家郎朗将于2月28日在波士顿交响乐大厅首次演奏拉赫玛尼诺夫的《第二钢琴协奏曲》。本次音乐会的另外两个曲目同波士顿交响乐团（BSO）有着历史渊源。欣德密特（HINDEMITH ）的《Konzertmusik的弦乐和铜管》于1931年BSO成立50周年之际在波士顿公演。巴托克（BARTÓK）的巧妙且千变万化的《乐队协奏曲》，于在1944年在BSO首演。

In the evening of Feb. 16, 2013, the Newton Chinese Language School (NCLS) traditional Chinese New Year celebration performance was held at Regis College in Weston, Mass. Thanks to the over 300 performers and the event administration staff, it was a great teamwork, and it has demonstrated the talents and hard work provided by the NCLS families.

麻州大学孔子学院、波士顿京津同乡 先后举办春节联欢
【侨报周末特约记者李强波士顿报道】今年春节前后，波士顿地区接连三个周末出现风雪天气。但是，波士顿地区华人欢庆春节的热情却没有受到影响，各个高等学府、华埠侨团、华人专业协会、中文学校、同乡会、校友会等华人团体，相继出台20多个春节联欢活动，让本地华人以及所有对中国文化感兴趣的朋友们体会到中国年的热闹和喜庆。
麻州大学孔子学院 张灯结彩庆新年
继2月4日新罕布什尔大学孔子学院成功举办了春节联欢之后，暴风雪初过的2月11日（大年初二）晚的麻州大学波士顿分校校园里张灯结彩，节日氛围十分浓郁，原来麻州大学孔子学院在这里举行春节文艺晚会。

SAPA-NE春晚 黄西、喜洋洋乐队、弦乐二重奏欢乐迎蛇年
【侨报周末实习记者夏静、特约记者李强波士顿图文报道】 2月15日，纽英伦美中医药开发协会（SAPA－NE）于华埠帝苑大酒楼举办了蛇年春节联欢晚会。本次晚会原计划于2月9日举行，因暴风雪推迟了一周。300多位中美医药界的专业人士和来宾欢聚一堂，互相拜年问候，观看节目、分享美食，酒楼老板黄官羡先生也给大家派发利是，现场充满了新年的喜庆。

White House Petition Response: Happy Lunar New Year!
Happy Lunar New Year! Thanks for your petition! We hope that you’re enjoying the Year of the Snake.
As a kid, President Obama knew what it meant to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Growing up in Hawaii, he was surrounded by friends and neighbors who marked the Lunar New Year with parties and parades.
And he’s not alone. Americans stretching back generations have observed the Lunar New Year. In San Francisco, the city’s famous parade through Chinatown has been a tradition since the Gold Rush. It regularly draws around 1 million spectators, and it’s widely considered to be the biggest event like it outside of Asia.
Marking the Lunar New Year this year, President Obama said, “Here in America and around the world, people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent will welcome the Year of the Snake. In Chinese tradition, the snake represents wisdom, and a thoughtful approach to tackling the challenges before us – principles that I hope will continue to guide us as we perfect our union and create a more just and equal future for every American.”
That’s a statement Secretary of State John Kerry echoed. “On behalf of the American people,” he said, “I am delighted to send my heartfelt wishes for good health, good fortune, happiness, and prosperity to all those around the world celebrating the arrival of the Lunar New Year this February 10.”
And even though it would take an act of Congress to make the Lunar New Year a federal holiday, we’re happy to speak out to ensure that this important celebration is widely recognized and treated with respect. Just like Rosh Hashanah, Easter, or Eid al-Adha, it’s an occasion that makes us richer as a culture and stronger as a people — even without it being a federal holiday.

Life of Pi Earlier Winner at 85th Academy Awards
(xinhuanet)In the evening of Feb. 24, 2013, best picture nominee Best of Pi took home two earlier awards: Cinematography and Visual Effects. With many more awards still in contention, it will be an exciting evening for director Ang Lee and all crew of Life of Pi.
