Boston, April 22, 2019, — Gock Wong, a resident of Brookline, MA, was born on March 4, 1927 in Hoiping, China, passed away on April 17, 2019. Immigrating to the United States in 1951, he was not able to complete his college education because his family needed
immediate financial support. With diligence, hard work, sincerity, and determination, Gock created a better life for his family and those around him.

FCC: Chinese Americans Targeted in Consulate Phone Scam
April 12, 2019, –The FCC has recently received numerous consumer complaints about scammers trying to steal money or personal information by posing as Chinese consulate employees. People with Chinese last names have been targeted, along with random consumers in areas with large Chinese communities, according to multiple news reports.

Filmmaker Huang Receives Grant for a Graffiti Art Documentary
Boston, April 8, 2019, — Renowned filmmaker Weiying (Olivia) Huang has received a grant for a documentary film in 2019. As part of the grant program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, this funding was awarded the ough the Cambridge Arts Council. Huang is a director and producer with a background in fine arts and graphic design.

Asian American Commission Announces Awardees for the 13th Annual Unity Dinner
BOSTON – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Asian American Commission (AAC) 13th Annual Unity Dinner will be held on Friday, May 3 at Crowne Plaza Boston – Woburn at 7 PM preceded by a networking reception with appetizers, cash bar, and silent auction starting at 6 PM. Proceeds will be used to support, expand, and strengthen AAC’s advocacy work on behalf of the Asian American community in the Commonwealth.

Golden Age Center Unveils Giving Tree
Boston, March 22, 2019 — Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center’s president Peter Chan, and executive director Ruth Moy took great pride in announcing the dedication of the Giving Tree today by by hosting a luncheon. The Giving Tree is located in the main lobby of Hong Lok House, at 25 Essex Street in Chinatown.

Celebrating Golden Spike 150th Anniversary, US-China Summit to be Held in May
On May 10, 1869 in Promontory, Utah, the first transcontinental railroad across North America officially opened for through traffic with the driving in of the last “Golden Spike”. Over 600 miles of the most hazardous part of the Central Pacific route was mainly built by more than 12,000 Chinese workers, the majority of whom were originally from the Canton province. They toiled in extremely harsh condition and accomplished a seemingly impossible mission. In total, nearly 2000 lives were lost during the railroad construction though this is likely an underestimate.

Fraud Alert: DHS Telephone Numbers Used in Scam
Washington, DC, — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is issuing this fraud alert to warn citizens of reports that DHS telephone numbers have been used recently as part of a telephone spoofing scam targeting individuals throughout the country. Spoofing is the deliberate falsifying of information transmitted to a caller ID display to disguise an identity.

In 2019, CCCC offers multiple summer programs at two different campuses – Our Lady’s Academy (920 Trapelo Rd, Waltham) and CCCC Headquarters (425 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham).

CCCC’s 24th Chinese Culture Summer Program at Our Lady’s Academy offers three two-week sessions (Jul. 8-19; Jul. 22-Aug. 2; Aug. 5-16) in our air-conditioned school facility for children 6 years or older (as of Jun. 30, 2019) from the U.S. and abroad. Each session features a variety of classes and activities, and takes place Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Daily hot lunch will be provided. Students will get to meet friends, develop independence and confidence, and have a lot of fun. It is a summer to remember.
