这张照片最近在网络流传,苏格兰医生梅藤更查房时与中国小患者行礼,这一老一小,一医一患的相敬相亲,在今天的背景下,让很多人感慨。不过,作为一个西方医生,1881年来到中国时,梅藤更要面对的医患冲突,其实远大于今天。

【波士顿双语网2014年2月21日独家报道】近期,上百美国各地的华人通过一家华人租车公司低价从Hertz租车,他们把租金付给了这家华人租车公司,提车时Hertz都没收钱,所以大家都以为把钱给租车公司了。结果过了一两个月后,Hertz从租车人的信用卡里面又扣了当时租车费用一点五到三倍以上的费用。还有更多受害人会陆续收到扣款通知,有个人被扣了$4600,涉案金额不少。涉嫌行骗的小明租车两位华人一个是在加州读书的学生,另一个已经逃跑,他们都说自己也上当,但都不配合报警。

2月7日晚上,罗德岛大学金士顿校区Edwards礼堂的大厅悬灯结彩,人来人往,大红福字和对联贴在门口,喜庆的鞭炮和灯笼悬挂在树梢,老教授在红纸上挥毫泼墨,小朋友们欢天喜地地品尝甜美的发糕,整个礼堂洋溢着节日的气息,大家都在翘首期盼即将开始的马年春节联欢晚会。
晚上6点30,由罗德岛大学孔子学院、中国学生学者联谊会、中文领航项目、中国文化俱乐部联合主办的2014年马年春节联欢晚会正式开始。 罗德岛大学孔子学院中方院长李淑敏博士主持介绍各位嘉宾,罗德岛大学校长David Dooley、罗德岛大学华人教工俱乐部主席杨庆教授、罗德岛大学中国学生学者联谊会主席张迟同学、罗德岛大学孔子学院院长何文潮教授分别上台发表新春贺词,对罗德岛的华人华侨和美国当地民众致以节日亲切的问候和新春美好的祝愿。

Boston, Feb. 11, 2014, — About 500 people attended 2014 New England Chinese Professionals 2014 Lunar New Year Gala on Feb. 1 at Marriott Boston-Newton hotel. Comparing to last year’s gala just after Blizzard Nemo, this year’s weather was much better with high temps in the 50s. Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Martin Walsh sent congratulatory letters for this year’s gala.

Boston, Feb. 19, 2014, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson was among 1000 people who packed John Hancock Hall in Boston Back Bay Sunday, Feb. 16, evening. They enjoyed the performances by top singers and dancers from China at the “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” show, presented by Asian Cultural Center. Mayor Christenson watched the performance together with Council General Sun Guoxiang of Chinese Consulate in New York City.

【華人醫務中心供稿】美國政府推出的健保改革『可負擔健保法案』(Affordable Care Act–ACA)于2013年10月1日在美國各州推出,主要針對年收入2萬元到9萬元之間、畏懼昂貴健保費而未購買保險的中產家庭,提供較為划算的保費和配套的優惠措施。「可負擔健保法案」將要求美國民眾都必須購買健保,但許多民眾因不熟悉法案內容進而忽視。ACA將要求保險公司不可拒絕已有病史的民眾,如癌症、長期病症患者,或孕婦等,且26歲下成年人可留在父母醫療保險計畫之下、30歲以下者可只購買意外或大病的保險計畫。

In my humble opinion, Jan. 30, 2014 marked the darkest day in California’s recent history of politics. On this day, the California Senate overwhelmingly (27:9) approved SCA-5, which would appeal provisions of Prop 209 and allow the State of California to discriminate an individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.

An anti-SCA5 whitehouse.gov petition started on Feb. 16.
