Mayor Christenson Attends “Cultures of China, Festival of spring”

Boston, Feb. 19, 2014, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson was among 1000 people who packed John Hancock Hall in Boston Back Bay Sunday, Feb. 16, evening. They enjoyed the performances by top singers and dancers from China at the “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” show, presented by Asian Cultural Center. Mayor Christenson watched the performance together with Council General Sun Guoxiang of Chinese Consulate in New York City.

美國健保改革須知
【華人醫務中心供稿】美國政府推出的健保改革『可負擔健保法案』(Affordable Care Act–ACA)于2013年10月1日在美國各州推出，主要針對年收入2萬元到9萬元之間、畏懼昂貴健保費而未購買保險的中產家庭，提供較為划算的保費和配套的優惠措施。「可負擔健保法案」將要求美國民眾都必須購買健保，但許多民眾因不熟悉法案內容進而忽視。ACA將要求保險公司不可拒絕已有病史的民眾，如癌症、長期病症患者，或孕婦等，且26歲下成年人可留在父母醫療保險計畫之下、30歲以下者可只購買意外或大病的保險計畫。

Background: SCA5 tries to amend CA constitution to allow affirmative action based on race and gender in state college admissions. Some states allow affirmative action in college admissions based on social-economic status, but not on race.

In my humble opinion, Jan. 30, 2014 marked the darkest day in California’s recent history of politics. On this day, the California Senate overwhelmingly (27:9) approved SCA-5, which would appeal provisions of Prop 209 and allow the State of California to discriminate an individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.
An anti-SCA5 whitehouse.gov petition started on Feb. 16.

中華公所、歷史協會、華埠主街同慶新春
【波士頓雙語網特約記者李心茗報導】2月9日的波城華埠，鑼鼓和鞭炮齊鳴，好不熱鬧。一年一度的華埠舞獅賀歲 吸引了數千名遊客，而多位麻州政府官員也紛紛前來恭賀新禧。
前來賀歲的嘉賓包括波士頓市長馬丁華殊（Martin Walsh）、摩頓市市長郭建新（Gary Christensen）、費奇堡市長黃素芬(Lisa Wong)、駐波士頓臺北經濟文化辦事處處長洪慧珠、麻州參議員麥家威、麻州眾議院黃子安和陳德基、波士頓市議員吳弭和林乃肯、劍橋市議員張禮能等官員（Leland Cheung）。新上任的紐英倫中華公所主席阮鴻燦對他們的到來表示熱烈歡迎。

Emirates to Start Nonstop Service between Boston and Dubai on March 10
Boston, Feb. 18, 2014, -– The Massachusetts economy will be better connected with the world on March 10 when Emirates – named the “World’s Best Airline” at the 2013 Paris Air Show — begins flying daily nonstop service between Boston and the United Arab Emirates. From its Dubai hub, Emirates flies to 134 destinations worldwide, including 10 in India.

【波士顿双语网记者李强报道】由中国国务院侨务办公室和海外交流协会主办、美国亚洲文化中心承办的2014“文化中国·四海同春”站的演出于16日晚在波士顿汉考克剧圆满举行。一千多位华人华侨和各界来宾一同观看了“文化中国·四海同春”波士顿站的演出。演员们虽然已经离开了波士顿，但是他们的优美歌声和演出在一个个视频和一张张照片中成为波士顿华人永运美好的记忆。

CHSNE and Chinatown Main Street Host Lunar New Year Celebrations
